How to prevent rust on rear shackle bracket?

It seems that water and rust will collect in the depression of the rear shackle brackets on these trucks.

I just wire bushed the rust away and repainted mine. But it seems that water will collect in the depression of the shackle brackets naturally and cause more rust.

Has anyone drilled a drain hole in the center of the depression to let the water drain? Or would coating the depression with water resistance grease be a good idea?

How do you all prevent rust in the rear shackle brackerts on these trucks? They don't look like a fun thing to remove and replace.

nothing wrong with drilling a drain hole in the bottoms of those ! try to keep the road salt out of them in the winter and keep pouring on some paint after every cleaning !

1. Yes I would drill a small hole to prevent water accumulation
2. Powder coat the part or
2b. Paint the part with an enamel paint
3. After install, spray with a coat of white lithium grease (dries to the touch, won't attract dirt, & will act as a coating to prevent damage to enamel.

The aftermarket brackets come with a hole already drilled in them. I don't know why the original brackets didn't come with a hole.
