PO741

Hello All. I have a 2005 Sport Trac with 141K miles on it. The transmission quit moving the car at a stop light. Engine was running but the car would not move while in "D" or "R". Tow guy who got me home said the car would probably work once it cooled off. It did. I took it for a short drive and it shifted fine from a dead stop up to 80mph. Have done this a few times getting the motor up to operating temps. Hooked up a diagnostic tool to it, and it came back PO741. What am I looking at? Thanks in advance. Patch

The P0741 code means "Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slippage detected." It means the PCM picked up an excessive amount of TCC slippage during normal vehicle operation. My understanding is the TCC will only engage at steady speeds above 35 mph. I'm not sure if that holds true for your 2005 Sport Trac though.
