Seat belt tensioner adjustment?

Is there any way to adjust the seat belt tensioner? I have done a search on this forum and most of the threads are dated and don’t indicate there is a fix. The tensioner on the passenger seat in my ’03 F250 locks you in. Once the passenger belt is fastened, the passenger is locked in. There is no leaning forward and no movement. If they set it loose and move, it tightens up and locks them in again until the seat belt is unfastened.

My driver side is not an issue. It will allow movement provided there is no touching of the brake pedal.

sounds like it is time for a new belt. they are not repaired, just replaced, its been this way for years. also, if it has pre tensioners, it probably does, i would not try to find a used one...if the truck was in a accident enough to deploy the airbags the pre tensioners will be set off as well making the belt no good. the pre tensioners are a one shot deal, just like the airbags.

I have successfully opened up tensioners and fixed this kind of problem by CAREFULLY inspecting to see what is hanging up. Usually just requires cleaning, removal of a burr or two, and/or adding a touch of lube, but it is something you have to do at your own risk.... It is possible to make them unsafe, and the retractor spring should be considered a loaded weapon. And if new enough to have pre-tensioner, that is also a loaded weapon.

I have repaired tensioners in other vehicles. However, I prefer to replace them. I dont want to worry about if I did it right or not.
