Plus you have the skills to weld up the holes if you ever decide to put it back stock.
Very true I already welded up
A few. Next after the bar is some line x. I'm still going to repaint the drilled holes.
Time to get back to work on it in the morning. Will post some pics.

Ok all today I welded up two stands to mount my hi lift on. They are made from a 1/2" grade 8 bolt welded into a 1 1/2" X .25 wall tubing.

Once I get it all painted it will be held down with nylocks.
Next I bent and welded up two loops for a safety strap around the tire out of 3/8" rod.

Strap cut to length.

This is where it sits for now. I should get some more done Friday or saturday. Time to make a Jerry can mount.

Excellent fab & welding job. What kind of setup do you have?

Excuse the stupid question, but whats the purpose of the strap if the wheel is bolted already?

The strap is there for overkill and just incase that sucker comes loose. That's a big heavy tire.

By set up if you mean welder. My tig welder is a Hobart tigmate and my plasma is a Hobart airforce 625.

Ok all. I got some more work done on her today. Added some extra tie downs on the bottom front legs for a motorcycle or two.

I also finished the Jerry can mount. It's dead simple. You just set the can on the angle iron and there will be a ratchet strap over the top hooked into the bottom under the can.

I know the second pic is kinda dark.
Last I cut out the backing plates that will go under the bed.
This Thursday I will sand blast the whole thing and prime it. Hopefully Friday I can lay on some paint. That is as long as the rain holds off.

Nice work! most roll bars are "all show and no go", so to speak, yours will be very utilitarian and functional.

Thank you. I honestly wouldn't even use a roll bar if I couldn't get it to perform other functions too. A roll bar wouldn't originally even been on my radar if the spare, when it was under my truck didn't look like it would hang up on a speed bump.

Looks good. Nice to see someone else who takes the time ti TIG everything as well. Most people just zap and go with the squirt gun (MIG) - I hate that...

I zap for sure! But I'll also make mig look like a million bucks anyday and be done drinking a cold one or wheeling my junk while your still tig welding!
Tig weld if its paper thin or if it's an art project. I know I said this before Chase. I dont do anything half *** but I couldn't be bothered with spider web gussets and cute little tig beads unless necessary .

Differences of opinion is all. My trucks ARE works of art (with ZERO spider web gussets thank you!). You can keep your squirt gun and I'll keep my hunk of art that never leaves the garage.

I agree with you both I use a mig and a tig. It really depends on what I'm doing. Small welds I'll tig big long time consuming stuff I'll mig. They are equal in strength if you do good welds.

Alright gents. Spent about 6 hours sandblasting this big mother.

I've already got the etching primer on and the first coat of paint. Will post more pics when I get the second coat on.

Ok. She's all painted. Just waiting for it to be dry enough to install.
