Question Painted grilles, anyone?

So my grill on my 79 is faded, along with the headlight bezels. I was thinking about painting them but not the stock grey.

thinking of a Serling Grey grill, bezel, and stripe down the dent, and then maybe the rear bumper.

anyone have a grill pic of one they may have painted a different color?

Here is my 78 with its original grill and headlight buckets. I went with gloss black to give it the black and grey look to match the body. I am currently searching for a new grill surround and it will be painted smoke grey to accdent the black.

I also stripped the original chrome bumper and went with the gloss black as well. I like how a little bit of sanding and work can bring such life back to the original parts. Plus it really helps the look of the new gloss black rims I added to the ole girl I think!

Kind of a side note, but did the 73-75's ever come from the factory black like that?

When I got my crew it had black grill inserts and a black front bumper. I was thinking it was because of the no frills, "custom" package the truck was ordered with.

My rig's grill... shot the leading edges silver, masked it off, and then shot the returns satin black. It maintains its identity as a Dentside instead of a big black hole looking back at me. Also blacked out the recesses of the F-O-R-D.

I know this is an older thread but I don't see any 76/77 style. Anyone have any?

78 to 76-77 Grille

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would add on to this one. Always liked the 76-77 grille but my 78 was so nice I was having trouble committing to the switch. So painted (similar to HIO Silver technique) the whole thing black and then painted the front edge and slight return silver. All in all it was much better and came out pretty good.

Only problem is it is still a 78, don't get me wrong all dent's rock but my personal preference is the 76-77 grille so when I saw this at the local pic and pull I had to go for it grille with some dings on the edges,

and one tiny crack in the left insert

Going to start the clean up this weekend and then am thinking the headlight recess and inner part of the inserts black with the rest of the insert silver.

All I need are the turn signals want to go 77 amber and could not believe the price! may have to go searching!

off to work!
