1976 F250 barn find
I stumbled upon a real gem a couple weeks ago, a 1976 4wd F250 custom with 46,000 original miles that has spent the last 27 years in a barn. The truck is in amazing condition. The interior looks brand new; no fading or cracks on the dash, vinly bench seat look brand new- has a very small tear at the seam on the drivers side, interior paint looks as new and shiny as I've ever seen, owners manual is only missing the cover page, it even has an 8-track .
Under the hood the 360 engine looks new. Plug wires are original and still have "1976" written in bright white on them. Truck fires right up, and drives perfectly, even on the original shocks.
The guy I bought it from purchased it from the estate of the original owner. He put new carpet on the floors, took off the old exhaust (rusted out) and put on new headers and exhaust pipes, and changed the rims and tires. The seller said he has the original rims and tires (dry rotted) and that they're the wagon wheel style.
So here are my needs/wants/desires:
1- What did the original rims look like? I've searched via G**gle, but can't find a picture. I'd like to keep the truck as original as possible.
2- The 4 speed shift **** with reverse down and right is missing. I've scoured the web for a NOS or used one, but can't find it. Anyone have one, or a lead to one?
3- I'd like to use it as my daily pampered farm truck (back and forth to town with a little trailering), but the 4 speed isn't too good here in hilly WV. 3rd gear is too steep for highway speeds (about 40mph max) and 4th is too long and leaves me lugging. Given that it's such a rare, unique truck, would anyone consider taking it apart and putting a 5 spd tranny in it- and IMO ruining the "collectablility" of the truck?
4- I WILL post pictures when I get them sorted!

No worries on the PM Montana! I looked at the exact same Ebay ****... wasn't sure of the tpi on my stick, so I wasn't sure of compatibility.
I will take you up on your offer! You can email me @ mrehlermann@hotmail if you'd like.

PS. Looked at land in Columbus, Montana before we settled here in WV. Nice place; finding water was an issue though!

Email sent.....yea it's really pretty country out that way but water access can be an issue in some of the more eastern parts of that state, i'm way up in the northwest corner so water's not an issue here, unless it's too much water.

Sounds like an excellent and rare find. I can't wait to see your photos. As far as the transmission I would keep the original and maybe change your gear ratios in your differentials. Putting in a 5 speed really changes the looks of the interior and if this truck is as original as you say I would keep it "As Is" and make only period correct modifications. (Maybe with the exception with a modern Stereo with XM and MP3 player.)
But that's just me. Show us those pix!
