Actually the trans shifts fine but the colum shifter/selector won't budge under any circumstances.
I disconnected the linkage/cable from the trans and everything works by hand. Only problem is you nedd two people to drive the truck.
I'm sure it's in the colum, any ideas?
BTW, this is a '95 PowerStroke but just pretend it's a '94.
Haven't a truck that new yet so can't say for certain if they had a brake interconnect or not (keep you from being able to shift unless you had your foot on the brake pedal) I'm guessing they didn't so probably don't have to worry about checking that it's functioning properly. Outside of that there's a lock in the column that keeps you from shifting when the key isn't in the run position - I'd put my money on that being broken somehow. I think you'll have to pull the steering wheel off so you can disassemble the upper part of the column to find out though. Perhaps someone else has run into the issue and can be more help.
X3, Check your fuses, My truck did that to me once when I stopped for a couple minutes, went to leave and the truck would not leave Park. A fuse had blown because the trailer I was towing didn't have a good ground. These transmissions won't go into gear if a fuse like that is blown.
There's some kind of an electrical interlock because there is afuse for it.
I've messed with it somemore though and this is definitely mechanical.
Then it must be the column lock actuator. You will need to pull the steering wheel, the turn signal plate and the column shroud to get to it.
About a $10.00 part but a huge PITA to get at.
