89 bronco II question from a newb.

first thnks to any one who replies I am just looking for some advice.

In searching for a truck I run across an 89 bronco two its blue and white good body 4x4 automatic unknown millage either 116,000 or 216,000

I can pick it up for 700 dollars or less but he says the engine makes a lot of noise and something about oil clogging up in four holes under the heads or something.
Sounds to me it needs a motor so my questions are.

Is 700 a good price?
is a 502 v8 swap an easy challenge or is a lot of customizing involved?

Hi,, I'd go fer it man even if motor is trashed,,you can get another from j/y or here in the Classifieds' section, theres plenty to chose from. get your tools ready for a swap. take off valve covers and clean out the drain holes(probly stopped up with sludge), drain oil, flush engine with kerosene(won't hurt it as it has oil in it) put in new oil & filter, change spark plugs, wires etc. check compression. as for engine swap,,plan on re-wiring, adapting to bell housing, etc. go for next size bigger engine. good luck

Stay stock or even the 302 is not really that hard to do. My old room mate just finished his '89' a couple of years ago and just loves it. Had to swap parts from the C-5 trany to a C-4 to retain the stock xfer case. Kept it a mild built so he was able retain the stock axles. Have fun with it, I'd sure jump on the chance to get another BII for that price.
