Auto Body Repair

I have a 1992 Ford F150 Nite that needs some restoration. Can any one give me an approx. number of the cost to do the following: remove rust around rear wheel wells, cab corners, and back bottom of the cab, new paint job, 2x frame crossmember replacement, 1x bed crossmember replacement, new bumper, underside sandblasted and undercoated, and removal of dents. It is a regular cab with a 8 foot bed

You need to stop by a body shop and ask this question... There are too many variables for any one to give a half way decent guess without seeing it in person..

It depends on how much rust, how many dents and how bad they are.. and about a 1000 other things..

I live in a small town and theres only one close automotive restoration shop. Their estimate was 14k, which i think is about 8-10k too much. The rust is minimal.

sometimes what looks like small rust--when sandblasted becomes a big hole, why not try getting a cheap blaster (OR RENT ONE) and try doing it yourself, you would save a ton of money. Also some elcheapo body shops are just going to grind down the rust and bondo over the area. --Some body shops don't even like to do rust work --because even blasted and rust treated it can re-rust in the same area. If it is a restoration shop that like restores classic cars the work will probably be the best you can get, since classics usually get a lot or rust work and/or panel replacement, collision shops just try to stick with collision work (NO rust jobs)-- thats my 2 cents anyway

Yes, this is the kind of thing that needs to be seen by the person contemplating doing the work to get any sort of idea as to time & expense.

FTE has a pretty decent bodywork section, you might ask over there:
