Got a pedal

Getting a pedal turned out to be easier than I expected. Tate's Auto Salvage in Oakridge TN had one on the shelf. It'll be here by the end of the week.

...and for comparison, a vacuum boost brake pedal from a Gen 7 truck...

So, is the entire pedal assembly required, or will the HB pedal fit on our assemblies?

The F-450 pedal will fit in the existing pedal assembly just fine. The only difference is the location of the pin.

Cool, thanks. I'm thinking of gathering the parts over time so it'll make my 'one of these days' lists. Sounds like an interesting conversion.

Will a 03 hydroboost fit my 1984 F350

Will a 03 hydroboost fit my 1984 F350? I have a 2003 hydro boost and Master Cylinder ($100) that needs a rebuild kit. Is this a do-able project? or, should I find another set-up? Can anyone throw me a bone of info on this?

How much fabrication do you want to do?
I put one of those(the HB unit only, MC is wrong for our application) in my '88.
I had to drill new holes for the HB unit in the firewall(also pressed the studs out of the HB unit and used bolts), lengthen the brake pedal actuator shaft(the part sticking out of the HB unit with the "ring" on it), make a custom spacer for the HB unit to the old MC and wollow out the holes between the HB and MC until they fit.

Once I was done with all that, though... it worked! It just took a bit of fudging to make it happen.

Is there a easier way of doing this? Less fabrication? Can I search for another hydro unit that would simplify installation?

Yes. Read back on the topic, but the HB unit for the F-super duty(F-450 before it was called that) from the same year as your truck(not sure on all the years, read this topic) should bolt up, because it was designed for the same application more or less.

Dragging this legendary thread back up to see if anyone knows where to get the hydroboost unit from! It seems like they are sold out everywhere, not even eBay has em. Looked for E8TZ-2005-B and motorcraft BRB-37.

I haven't found any pick ur part yards here in Houston that have any f450\f super dutys.

Looks like you can get a brand new kit from Hydratech still, but they want over 600 bucks for just the hydro unit.

My vac brake booster died and I would really like to go hydro if I'm going to get all up in there to replace it. Any help is appreciated!

Edit: I am open to using a later model SD unit (04-07 readily available in junkyard) and working with it to do the conversion. Just making sure the bolt in option is actually off the table before going that route.
Second edit: kept looking around and found car-part.com on another page... That's the spot!! It's Nationwide and has Tons of old F Super Duty/450 trucks with hydroboost!! Some as cheap as 50 bucks for an "A" grade part and some on the shelf ready to ship. Only bummer is most of the yards are mon-fri only so l will have to wait till Monday to see what the cost plus shipping will be. Fingers crossed I can find a decent one.

Go ahead and get the master cylinder with. It's just a few bucks more and will probably still be good. Some auto part stores are not reliable in getting the correct master cylinder.

It's not uncommon for a reman hydroboost to cost around $400, so a new one that will bolt in for $600 isn't a bad deal when you consider all the Fab work/time you'll save.

Would be a good time to do the clutch reinforcement plate too while it's all out n apart

Have you seen any writeups of people using them? Or what year range is closest to the 97 F SD? Don't want to get into too much crazy fabrication and modifications. I can do it, but that **** tends to drag out from a week project to a few weeks. It would be nice to use a new one, rather than a used JY part.
