cab leak on a 99 ranger crew cab! please help!

A female friend of mine as a 99 crew cab ranger with the v6 in it. It auto. She has a leak problem on the driver side by the door. She told me she thinks the water coming in by the floor seem by the piece if front of the door. Where the e brake foot leave mounts. It soaks the drive side floor and rug. What got me is the truck will only leave when parked up hill.

Any Ideas would be great!

Leaking

Doug,

Have you checked to see that the weap holes and drains aren't plugged (eg. leaves and pine needles, etc)? It could be that the rain is building in an area and flooding back in through a panel seam/joint. When on a hill, it could be that it sheds the rain differently than when it's on a level grade.

First thing, pull all the carpet/vinyl and inspect the whole floor. The water could be coming from anywhere and that's the best way to see

If leak only happens when parked you could have plugged weep holes which don't allow water to flow correct, BUT how does it get past the door seal ? Check this out. Simply open the door and see if the rubber seal is broke torn or missing. Aerodynamics will cause water to bypass this when you are moving, thus no leak ! Also check out your window seal, could be comming in through here and down the kick pannel.

If you can't find the source of the leak I suggest removing the floor plug located under the carpet to that it has an exit point, might be wet but won't be soggy

Pathway

The leak maybe traveling on the inside of a panel, perhaps down the inner/outer firewall and along a line/cable that breeches the firewall outside inward. Water leaks are rather tricky. Ask any homeowner with a leaky roof.

My 98 did the same thing. My problem was inside the cowl panel drivers side Ford did a crappy calk job in there and water was coming in through a hole the size of a needle. I bought some 3M joint calk from painters supply. You can get to the area with hood open theres a small black plate driver side with four screws holding it to the fire wall. Remove and calk the ***** out of it.
