Motorcraft 2100 ID and help

I have a '73 F100 with a 360 and a 4-spd trans. It has a Motorcraft 2100 carb ID D3TF UA. I'm guessing this is the original carb based on the date code. I'm not sure what CFM it is, the clockface behind the accelerator pump rod is gunked up and I can't read it.

Since I'm not sure exactly what's missing except for the fact that high idle doesn't engage when the choke is on, I'd like to just buy a complete second 2100 carb and rebuild it myself.

Which is the most desirable carb/CFM that runs the best on these old 360's? From what I hear the earlier ones that were designed pre-emissions are the best, but I'm looking for some facts. I'd like something that's a fairly straightforward swap. Eventually I might end up with a 4bbl, but for now it runs great with the 2bbl so I'm not intersted in going there yet. Plus I'm looking for cost effective...

Thanks in advance,

-MK

Yes, that's the original 2 barrel carb for your truck. I just pulled up the info on the # you gave for the carb, and where is what I came up with:

Ford Truck V8 Carburetor Parts

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR vAlign=center align=left char="" charoff="67108863"><TD class=mid-highlight vAlign=top align=left width="10%">Year:

</TD><TD vAlign=top align=left width="9%">Model:

D3TF-UA

, D3TF-VA, D3TF-XA, D3TF-YA, D3UF-AC, D3UF-AD, D3UF-CC, D3UF-CD, D3UF-DC, D3UF-EC, D3UF-FC, D3UF-GC, D3UF-RA, D3UF-SA, D3UF-TA, D4PE-BFB, D4TE-DA, D4TE-DB, D4TE-EA, D4TE-HA, D4TE-JA, D4TE-LA, D4TE-RA, D4TE-SA, D4TE-TA, D4TE-VA, D4TE-ADA, D4TF-DA, D4TF-KA, D4UE-BA, D4UE-CA, D4UE-DA, D4UE-EA, D4UE-FA, D4UE-GA, D4UE-HA, D4UE-JA, D4UF-AA, D4UF-BA
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Your carb model # is bolded and has a larger font, which I did for you so you can see.

And below, I pulled this off of another website so you can see what kind of CFM you're pulling with your carb... which reminds me that I should check mine...

The following I.D. Nos. (found on the side of the float bowl behind the accelerator pump rod) will give you the individual CFM ratings.

Stamped No + CFM

.98=190
1.01=240
1.02=245
1.08=287
1.14=300
1.21=351
1.23=356
1.33=424

As for rebuilding your carb, it can be done very easily with the help of my Autolite/Motorcraft/Ford 2100 manual that I offer up to FTE users for free.

If you want, I'll post the link up. I've sent out around over 200 manuals to FTE users and they all love me for it.

The 2100 and 4000 series carbs are excellent carbs for these old engines, and are VERY reliable if tunes and built correctly.

Thanks! I'm one of the lucky reciepients of that rebuild document. I just want to make sure I start with a complete carb. If I can't find one, I might just start with the exploded diagrams and see what pieces I have, and which ones I don't. I just don't want the truck to be down too long...

Ah, very good!

It's hard to keep track of who I've given it to, so my appologies.

I'd do exactly what you said for your carb, but I actually just found another diagram I'm going to start including with my carb manuals that I send out... It's a step-by-step guide on how to rebuild the carb that was made by someone else, but also free.

I'll have to convert it to a Word file, so it may take some time... but here is the link I'm going to rip it from:

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech..._2150_carb.pdf

It may help you to find what you are/aren't missing on your carb.
