the strap would have snapped if it could hurt the truck ... it was only a 4 inch and in gravel. The truck could not get it self up that run away road. It didn't even break a sweat on that train...

i'm sorry but this post sounds like you guys are out to bash our fords and i dont like it. the only part of that show that was remotely accurate was the drag race. and that wasn't even that accurate. with that stupid burn out starting the race. and that makes me wonder if my thoughts on the so called independent tests weren't rigged for the ford to lose to the chevy by being unevenly matched via gearing, but that is a different topic. the old ford highboys with the devorced driveshafts were and still are lenegdary for their superior strength, durability, and off road capability. i love ford trucks but even they have limitations and that is not to be denied. with that said there is nothing that a 1/2 ton suv of any brand can do that a 3/4 ton 4x4 can do unless it is well used and abused and needs reworked

i woulda done the tests right, classic truck pull to end the debate of those three...there done you get a fair test as truck pulls are sevearly regulated from my understanding and no way to make it unfair for the most part....

I keep trying to stop watching Top Gear US because it's not even entertaining but they keep trotting out Ford trucks to make me keep watching. Now I gotta tune in next week to see the Bronco vs. Blazer vs. Jeep CJ show.
Every time they do one of these challenges with old cars the italian guy breaks his first, the F250 just drew the short straw on that one with the 4x4 trucks. The jacked-up Maverick was cool, tho. I hope he doesn't have the Bronco next week.

I don't think pulling the train was that big a feat. The rolling resistance of a train wheel on level track is next to nothing, that's why it's such an efficient way to move freight, it takes very little power to move a given weight. I've heard accounts of old steam engines being pushed by 1-2 people on level track.
As to the burnout, I suspect the Chevy had traction control that prevented it from spinning the tires.
