Air Pump removal?

It is a 94 F250 5.8 with a C6 behind it. 160,000 miles and the air pump is making noise. I sprayed some WD40 into the intake hose and it quiets it down for a few miles, then starts up again. I do have an eliminator pulley and bracket that I pulled off of another truck...anticipating that one day I might have to do this. I prefer to keep most things close to stock, makes it easier to diagnose and repair, IMO, but I do not really want to drop $100-$150 for a reman/new pump... I live north of KC and have a local shop do my inspections...don't want to ask them, since I know that answer and it would direct attention to my truck. I do 99% of my repairs. My question is: What is the chance that if I remove the pump that I will fail my next inspection...(visual as I don't believe they do sniffer tests on this side of the state) which will be in Nov of 2012. I used to live in Central Kansas, no inspections, so I wouldn't worry about it then...just seeing what those of you in MO think? Cat is gone, it was insides were cracked and in pieces so I went ahead and gutted it out when I had it off to replace my O2 sensor (long story, lots of drill bits, don't ask). Thoughts, opinions? Ideas? Thanks!

I don't think that they'll do a sniffer test on it, either.

However, if they open the hood and see the gaping hole, they'll notice it.

I say yank it off and hang on to it...reassemble near inspection time...

When I did inspections for a shop in Springfield, I didn't care if it had an air pump or not. As long as it wasn't a hacked up mess, I'd let it go. (of course I know they do absolutely NOTHING for emissions, so I really didn't care)

The KC area dosen't check for Emissions, the St. Louis area I believe does. Myself when I was doing state inspections if it was a vehicle that suppose to have a catalytic converter and it was missing, I'd have to fail it. That pump would be an "iffy"

Thanks for your input...truck is only used to haul a gooseneck horse trailer...and to drive to and from the barn...so it isnt a DD, but I need to decide what direction I am going to go with it, as I certainly do not want to have the pump sieze/die on us on a 4 hours from home...with the horse in the back. Not a good situation. Thanks again for your quick replys!

my 300-6 has an air pump, BUT its not hooked up to anything that would need air... in fact, the only outlet from it runs below the motor next to teh tranny where it vents out. most shops i wouldntthink would even look for a air pump... but i dont know a whoile lot, lol.. good luck
