Starter removal on 2003 4x4 6.0L
How easy / difficult is it to remove the starter on a 2003 4x4 6.0L?
I just want to move it to install a fumoto plug in place of the block drain plug, I don't need to get it to a work bench or swap it.
Anything special to consider?
Simple bolt removal?
Do the wires need to be disconnected or is there enough play?
Putting it back do the bolts get any anti-seize or lock-tite?
Thanks.

Not to bad of a job, I have never used loc tite on starter bolts, I guess its personal prefrence...I would anti seize.
Might just be easier to dissconnect the wires so you dont have to worry about having the starter being in the way at all...
Also, first, before touching the starter dissconnect the batteries!

It looks like access could be made easier if I remove the wheel and the plastic interior wheel well cover too ... or whatever its called ... about time to rotate the tires anyway.

I'm trying to figure out what'll be the lesser of two evils ... remove the starter or go with the grief that jfirstford describes with the stubby wrench etc.
I think I'll remove the starter. It'll be a good time to replace my busted block heater cord (dried out and brittle) and install the Marinco plug I've had sitting on my bench since last Fall.

I just pulled the starter and installed fumoto valves in both sides. Only took about an hour to do. I ran hoses down to catch the water. Even with the engine hot with a pair of work gloves I can reach over the starter and open the fumoto valve easily. The valves you want are F108N. The link below has pictures of the valves installed.
