Seriously Ford?

So im in the Army and I am moving from Alabama to Alaska (with a stop in cali) i drove about 900 miles and stopped for a hotel in Oklahoma. When i was leaving the hotel i was getting on the freeway and had NO BRAKES.... So after the HOLY **** reaction i managed to get it off the road safely, and started to look around. I found that the Passenger side rear brake line (rubber line that attaches to the caliper) was Busted. So I called Ford and they said they no one in the United States has one????????????? Seriously.. WTF. I called Oriely's and they "Might" have it so i ordered what they think is the line and ill find out tomorrow. Othere than that I am stuck here in Oklahoma City until then.

Flex lines burst. Yours are 7 years old. It is common on any vehicle.

If you do not want it to happen again, upgrade to braided stainless steel flex hose.

You might be able to get a line from another model year or type of truck to work. I had to do this one time and it worked out.

I will most definatly upgrade to braided steel.. I weighed the truck about an hour before it happened and i cant imagin 13,300 LBS crashing into something or someone.

When I talked to for, they said that they check all of the databases for every ford parts house in the states. took him about 20 min to check and said they had none.

If the one form Orielys doesnt work tomorrow then i will start exploring additional options.

Just went through that but it was our 99 Dodge Ram. We we're traveling from Oklahoma to Georgia. The dodge dealer didn't have the brake line and didn't stock it, they had to send out for it. I couldn't believe a dodge dealer didn't stock the brake line. I thought they we're crazy. But at least they got it fixed for us. I'm just glad it went bad after the mountains.

Good luck on getting it fixed.

WOW!! surprised no one stocked this part. Did not have a brake issue driving from VA to Alaska but in South Dakota my muffler blew apart, Ford in Rapid city said it would take 3 days and $1K to get the parts. I kept going until I reached oregon and had it replaced with a magnaflow. This took 3 hours and $320 bucks.
Will you at least have access to a decent shop on a nearby base? Good luck with your trip, I sure was glad to be done with it.

I walked into an O'reillys a few weeks ago in Appleton WI and was able to get 2 hoses. They are out there.

Get on the phone and try all the auto parts stores in town. NAPA is always a good bet.

I went to NAPA, and bought new front lines for my '01, and they had them all in stock.

They had both ABS, and non-ABS lines, the only difference was the clips were on the ABS one.

Not sure what's up with Ford not stocking something like that, but they may realize that people are buying them aftermarket (which are probably actually OEM anyway) and they don't sell more than a handful a year, so why bother stocking them?

Matter of fact, I'm not sure I would EVER call Ford first for a part like a brake hose.

Call shops that do brakes/tires/alignments/etc. They may stock such items as well. Or have more reliable sources for getting them if they don't. Some shops might even be able to make them.

I thought there was a "thing" that if the front or rear hose busted, the other brakes still work?

I used the Russell braided stainless line kit (696490) and was quite impressed at the quality for the cost. And with teflon lines, they never need replacing again. The only way to go for those of us that keep vehicles forever and maintain them.

And yes, parkland, the system is redundant front to rear. If one hose pops, the other axle should still have full brakes.
