Moulding Options poll, what is your favorite combination?

This is to compliment Lariat 85's poll, located here.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ding-poll.html

This is a multiple choice poll, so you can choose your combination of mouldings that you like.

The 1980-1981 lower body protection moulding before 4/81 is different if you were to buy the parts, but in looks it's almost the same as 1981 from 4/81-1986, why I combined the two in the poll.

Here are pictures of the following options:

Option 1: No Moulding:

Option 2: Chrome Upper Moulding: 1980-1984 style: Pictured with lower moulding

Option 3: Wheel Lip Moulding

Option 4: Lower Bodyside Protection Moulding with vinyl insert:
Can be seen with picture of option 2:

Option 5: Lower bodyside Protection Moulding without vinyl insert

Option 6: Upper Bodyside protection moulding 1985-1986 style:

Option 7: Tailgate moulding: 1980-1984 style

Option 8: Tailgate Moulding: 1985-1986 style

I chose the 1985 - 1986 "Upper" bodyside protection moulding as my favorite, along with the 1985 - 1986 full tailgate trim with the red reflector, simply because this combination is the one that looks the BEST!

Wasn't there also a 3rd option for the upper molding? One that ran in the "crease" where the front marker light is? I know there was a tape stripe option in there for paint break line on a combo or delux tu tone, but I was thinking there was also a chrome molding option in there as well.

Also, gotta ask. Was there ever a lower molding that actually used the wheel lip moldings, rather than just the arches that went ~2" above the lip? I'd swear I've seen one that had lower molding without the arches, but rather the lip moldings.

Yes. My 81 had lower moulding (just the horizontal parts) and wheel well lip moulding. I don't have any pics of it like that because I took it off before taking any. It was half on/half off. The pics of the pass side show some rust on the door where the moulding was. I have a pic of the door sticker if that will help decode trim level.

Now that would be interesting. I never thought of using the wheel lip mouldings with the "Lower" mouldings before. I would like to see a pic of that combination.

I can't really pick any of them because it really depends on the trucks color and stripe combination too.

I do however prefer the 1980-1984 tailgate, and I don't really care for the 1985-1986 upper molding.

The only thing I can find in my parts book for a upper bodyside protection moulding that I did not mention is a kit that is pressure sensitive that mimics the upper bodyside protection moulding 1980-1984.

I can find no record of the middle moulding in my books, or any pictures of a truck with a center moulding in the crease. (not saying there isn't either, just can't find any record of it)

That started in 1987 as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for confirming my memory not being too bad.....

I'm guessing this truck was not a tu tone, at least not in that area.

I would consider adding this style molding to my truck, unless I do go thru with my tu tone paint idea. Not sure how I would treat the paint break line over the wheel arches, if I did the tu tone.

It would have to done using the correct molding though. The lower molding that uses the "outta place" arches, is made differently than the archless molding......

It would leave the paint break line exposed with a tu tone scheme, and I dunno what would be the best way to go about trimming that, so it doesn't "stand-out"......

RW, I don't think that is the case. If you look at some of the pics in the other post it looks like the upper wheel well trim meets the horizontal pieces at the top edge.

It would look odd due to the fact the lower section body moulding would have the attachments for the 2" above fender arch pieces to connect to it.

Now I have seen the lower bodyside protection moulding with the 2" pieces above the wheellip, WITH the wheelip protection mouldings as well. But there is no record of that combination coming from the factory, and it looks a bit weird to be honest.

Perhaps I am mis-remembering, but I thought the arches went under the horizontal pieces, so they had a "cutout" for them to fit into.
Truthfully, I haven't looked too closely, since I never really liked the arches being away from the lip.

Can someone post a close up pic?

I've seen that done too. It does look rather hideous, in my opinion. Doesn't matter if it's a solid color or tu tone, just too much in a small area... Kinda looks "busy", if ya know what I mean.....

I would need to see pictures of the moulding, because my books do not have any info on this type trim discussed. Only the lower bodyside protection moulding being discussed I pictured above.

Now on 1987 and newer, yes, 1986 and older, no.

EDIT: Was this lower moulding stuck on your truck with adheasive?
