Flathead Dual Intake Offset

I am slowly piecing everything together. I got around to installing the fan shroud on my rad and have interference with the fan. I have an Offenhauser dual intake with a stock generator and fan, problem I see is the stud for mounting the generator bracket is offset to the drivers side by over an inch. I never noticed this untill I installed the fan shroud. Is this normal for dual intakes as the stock one is down the middle.

Thanks

Mine was the same way when I first installed it in 1980. I used a hammer and dolly to open the shroud, just a little, then smoothed it out and painted it. Nobody ever noticed it but me.

Sorry, I don't have pix, as the truck is apart for a frame-off rebuild.

Added note: Mine is also the Offy 2x2.

Not a "normal" deal. Never seen one that far off. How did the bracket slide into the machined groove? I suppose you could build up one side of the bracket and relieve the other side to offset. Frankly I'd get a "new" manifold.

Here is what CTS is talking about:
(Note: I never noticed before, that someone had over tightened the gen. bracket, warping the mounting flange, just a little.)

I believe it is for clearance to a generator with 2x2 carbs.

Yes, I think the carb interferes with the generator. The 3 deuce set up has a really weird bracket that sets it on the head.

Guess I've not seen that since I've always used early manifolds and heads on late blocks with an offset head mounted gen bracket. This was based on a visual preference. I would think that an early "high rise" would work for gen clearance.

The picture above is exactly what I have other than mine is not bent, I guess it must be for generator clearance but other Offy intakes are centered and I think by looking at mine there would be clearance if centered. This is a pain as my fan shroud is finished paint and don't feel like hammering it. could build an offset bracket to bolt to the rad to shift it over but I think the only good way to fix it is to replace the intake, more money. Funny how things bite you in the A as you put things together over a long period of time.

thanks for your input

Every equation has two ends; ……..a dark-sider would cut a nice “notch” with a nibbler or holesaw in the shroud!

I am thinking about the electric fan route. but looking at it today I think I can move it over at least 1/2 inch with some aluminum flat stock and it will look OK.
It will be still off center but will not foul.

So what did you end up doing? Did you get a different distributor? If so which one?

I am considering a dual set up and did read about this venturi vacuum issue before. Just trying to see what the options are.

Well I have fixed my offset problem. I got 2 strips of 1 inch wide aluminum and have offset the fan shroud enough to clear. Looks good and only someone very nosey will be able to tell. Will try and get some pictures. It is back together and running. My dual setup seems to work well with my modified Chrysler electronic ignition, full mechanical advance and from my preliminary measurements advances just over 20 degrees around 2000 rpm or so. Seems to be running rich though on idle and have just now balance the carbs with my sync tool and adjusted in the air screws, would be nice to run it down the road.

Thanks for all your advice
