More POWER! Maybe a slight bump in MPG's if you don't thrash it cuz you got a turbo 200.00 for a complete setup is a steal. You'll have guys here beating your door down if you don't take it!

take it!if it needs to be rebuilt,so be it.it'll be worth it.
funny your asking us what the difference a turbo makes though.
your buddy wont let you drive his truck or what? he scrapped the truck and kept the motor?

Now how in the world did he do that? I mean really! SHEESH! Please tell us HOW he blew up the ZF5spd. I wouldn't think these engines would or could produce enough HP and torque to blow up a tranny. Break it yes, but BLOW IT UP! WOW! Got any pics? WOW!

ouch.
well there's your answer.
enough power to spread a heavy duty zf5 open.

seriously though,so rather than a trans replacement hes now just parting it out?
talk about throwing in the towel early.

If you mash the go pedal to the floor in 1-3rd gear yes. Fourth Gear on mine on the highway i can. But yes if you hot rod this engine around it will create black smoke. But doing that is just throwing money out the window. And in this economy is not a good idea.

Whats the whole motor going for? The turbo motors are built better for turbo charging, and a turbo swap is probably more difficult then a motor swap.

The 6.9 is the better block if you throw the 7.3 rockers on it. I say that the turbo swap would be easier because it involves taking the turbo off and thats it, instead of taking apart the entire front end and then removing the engine.

Your only issue is the down pipe will want to co-exist in the same space as your dipstick tube. Easy fix though-just bend it around and attach the dipstick elsewhere. Mine is bent to hug the transmission bellhousing and comes up middle back of the engine. You'll be able to bump your IP up a flat or two, but be sure you have an EGT in it and keep an eye on it. You wanna keep it a turbo kit, not a piston melting kit.

Then enjoy it! As my buddy once said to me - "Good God I can hear your turbo 3 blocks away!" But I'm 4" straight piped with a 3" down pipe.

The stock turbo setup should be wastegated at 7psi, if you want to go any higher then that head studs are strongly suggested.
