Quick lifting confirmation question.

Quick lifting confirmation question.
Greetings All!!
Been a lurker for years and now taking the plunge to participate.
I have a 93 F150 XL 2WD, 300-4.9 (176K), 5 speed. Purchased new in 93, revamped it about 9 years ago and now lifting it. Currently the truck is getting a new paint job and it will be brought up to be fully mechanically sound with all new outer accessories (lights, billet, brush guard, rails, caps, etc). This is now a toy but will NOT be used for mudding or off road use, it will just be for highway driving. My wife and I like the stature of a taller truck plus we are Texans now in NC so we have to live up to our roots. So just going to have fun.
Going with a 6" Rough Country Suspension lift, and planning on going with 4.10 gears (for gas mileage) on 35x12.50 tires. If it is not tall enough we may add a slight body lift although I am opposed to them. I know the rule of thumb for 35" tires is 4.56 gears but since we are not using it for towing (never have) and only once in a blue moon have a load and just dont off road, I am thinking the 4.10 should be fine for highway rpms. Thoughts? (yes I have searched the archives to the point of exhaustion and everyone has a different opinion!). Just looking for confirmation here.
Additionally, will I need fender flares with the additional tire thread sticking out from the fender well to protect the paint? If so what do you recommend in fender flare width?
Thank you all for your patience on these redundant questions.
