back axle

Hi guys hope you can help me. when i bought my truck (ford f1 1949) the rear springs were shot so i had them re tempered but now it sits too high i just wondered if there is a way i can sit the axle on top of the springs instead of underneath although there is a braket on the top of the axle to take the curve out and for the u bolts to fix to? hope you understand that sure you will cheers Dave.

The difference between below the axle with stock springs and above is about 5-6 inches. Are you sure you want to lower it that much? If you still have all the leaves you might try taking some out to lower it a little...

Yes I do want to lower it by about that. When I bought it they had taken some leaves out but the springs were nearly bent the other way. Dont know if you have the same as we have over here a M.O.T were the Ministry Of Transport check your vehicle is road worthy and if you take some of the leaves out they would probably fail it.
Thanks Vern but my question is still the same can it be done and if so how?

I put the axle over the springs in my truck but I did not use stock springs. This is a picture of my truck using 87 Chrysler rear springs. I made my own brackets to mount them. I can't say how your truck will come out using the stock springs but I would guess something similar. I did not C-notch the frame and have 3-4 inches of travel in the rear suspension.....

Sacramento Vintage Ford has a 'FLIPPED REAR AXLE KIT 1948-56' (P/N 07379) for$130. The kit gives you all the parts you need to do it but the new spring pads have to be welded to the axle.

Good luck
