'75 F150 360 correct oil pan/dipstick/tube?

Hello,

I have a '75 F150 2WD with a non-original 360. After 6-quart oil change with filter, the dipstick reads way over full. I'd like to make sure I have the right combination of parts. The dipstick is marked D5TE-6750-DA. The dipstick tube terminates near the front exhaust port below the top exhaust manifold bolt. The oil pan has a rear sump, but looks shallow (no measurements yet).

How many different pans were available?

I looked at a '71 360, and that has a tube located more toward the center of the engine. Does my 360 appear to have the correct tube & stick?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I would PM NumberDummy or mikeo0o0o0. They have parts catalogs and can look up the part # for ya.

ND will have a better answer, but he has to show up.

Front sump 2wd, rear sump 4wd. D5 should be for 75.

You should be OK with 6 qts.

D5TE-6750-DA (P/N D5TZ-6750-B) is correct for your application if your s/n is after W00,001 but sound like you have the wrong pan. The correct dipstick for 4WD rear sump is P/N D5TZ-6750-A (marked D5TE-6750-CA).
If your '75 is before W00,001 the correct 2WD dipstick is C7TZ-6750-B

Sorry for the delay and the ignorance, but I have the following questions:

Does the tube change length or location between front-sump and rear-sump pans?

I keep the truck at a relative's place, so I haven't verified whether the tube enters the block or the pan on that engine. I have another '75 360 with a front-sump pan, and the tube enters the block near the front of the engine and terminates near the no. 5 exhaust port.

I would have thought that the tube on a rear-sump engine would enter the block or pan toward the rear of the engine. I checked a friend's '71 F100 4x4 360, and it has a rear-sump pan with a tube that enters the pan, not the block, near the middle of the sump. The tube is secured to the no. 7 exhaust manifold bolt.

Were there rear-sump car pans? Were there earlier 5-quart rear-sump truck pans (with filter)? Eyeballing this pan, I would not have guessed 6-quart capacity (with filter). The drain plug is located on the driver's side rear corner of the pan.

Thanks for the help.

I don't think there are any rear sump passenger car pans. All the rear sump 4X4 pans that I've seen have the dipstick going into the pan on the drivers side. On the front sump pans the dipstick goes into the block.
Not sure but I think the rear sump dipstick is longer.

this is something that I am curious about as well. a buddy was over while i was installing my headers and said "hey matt, your engines been changed" and pointed out that my highboy had a front sump oil pan on it and that he has never seen a 70's 4x4 360 that had a front sump pan. only the 390's in cars and 2wd's. which has got me thinking because for an old low compression 360, it's got a pretty raspy exhaust note and runs like a raped ape...

You might know more if you got the casting #s from the block and heads. Look between the filter pad and oil pan from the bottom for the date code, and on the passenger side near the freeze plugs for the casting # on the block. The casting #s on the heads are between the middle 2 spark plugs. They're not much good for IDing the cid but it will tell you the date it was made. IMO I'd be looking for a rear sump pan. They're kinda hard to find, maybe that's why it's on there?
