Two questions...speedometer cal. and latest ford flash

Hey Guys,

Just got my truck back from the dealership after having my FICM replaced and have a couple questions. Was told that they flashed the modules with the latest calibrations. What has happened in these new calibrations? Seems like my truck is slower to build boost although it still shows mid 20's. Second, I told the dealership to recalibrate my speedometer to correct for the 35's I have on my truck. I was told that they did it but when I was driving home I checked with gps on my iphone that it was still around 6 mph off while driving 65. This is what it was before I took it in. Question is should the dealership be able to correct my speedometer to work with my 35's or not? Just want to know before I call the dealership back tomorrow. Thanks.

The dearship should be able to recal for you, as far as I know.

As for the latest Flash, this is my understanding of it:
CEL when ECT/EOT delta over 15* at OT.
Cycle of the VGT vanes at idle to aid to avoiding sticktion.
CEL for the FICM voltage.
Mileage supposedly goes down a bit more, which I haven't seen any numbers for folks to comfirm that.

I am not on the latest flash, so I have no first hand experiance how well it performs.

The methods I have are an Edge Insight CS which lists it under vehical infromation, and an SCT Flash Tuner.

Pretty sure the Ford Shop could tell ya in a pinch though.

Thanks for the info. Anyone else know for sure if the speedo can be reprogramed for 35's before I call the dealership this morning?

I know they can get fairly close to 35's but it still won't be exact. You might search for speedometer recalibration by using quotation marks around the search parameter.

I'll tried searching but didn't come up with much. I'll try using quotes though. I knew it might be off a little but thought it was pretty strange that it hadn't changed at all since before I took it in.

This is the information I came up with and FWIW I've found that listed tire RPM's vary quite a bit by manufacturer.

Find someone with AutoEnginuity. It can put in any tire size you want.

I called the dealership yesterday and was basically told that there wasn't anything they could do. Guess I still find it kinda hard to believe that they couldn't get it any closer than it already was. Anyone have auto enginuity in the eastern Nebraska area?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but need a quick sanity check.

I have a 2005 Excursion running 35's. From what I had been told the only way to recalibrate my speedo for that year is to go into the ABS module. So I finally broke down and took the time to take it into the dealer who assured me they could make the change in the ABS module. In the end things changed very minimally. i.e... instead of being 10% off I"m maybe 8% off (speedo at 60, but GPS says 66 as the old example). The tech said he took it as far as he could? So is this a limitation on what they are technically able to do as mentioned above?

Will AE for a FACT be able to truly recalibrate my speedo? If so - does anyone in the Columbus, OH area have AE and might be willing to help me out?

Thanks guys!

Well from my experience that's all the dealer must've been able to change my speedo as well. Not sure why. I have since used my SCT tuner to be able to correct the speedometer. I would think that AE would be able to make the change you need but I have no experience with it.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately the SCT won't work on a '05. As for the dealer - I wonder if they could have gotten it closer given what Cheezit said about the 20's almost being 34".

I've got to save my pennies for my oil cooler and egr delete this Friday. After my slush fund recovers a bit I think it is time to break down and buy AE.

Thanks!

I'm surprised it won't work on your 05 excursion. It works on my 05 f250 just fine. Must be a difference between the two I guess.
