Tires

I need tires for my 1992 F150. I plan on plowing with them and would like to run them year around. I would rather buy them from an American company, but what are your opinions on good tires for the way Ill use them.

Have had my current set of BFG A/Ts for 60,000 miles. Still good tread. Work real good on hard snow pack and ice, as well as dirt and highway in summer. Bought them at Sam's club. That's American enough for me.

Personally I love the Firestone Destination M/T tires....

They wore very good and had amazing traction off road and in ice/snow on my truck

Firestone destination AT or MT, the BFG SUCKS on anything but packed snow. Otherwise general grabbers are good too.

I don't think the BFG AT sucks. I have them and really like them. They may not be the best in sloppy mud, but I have had really good results with them overall. I have never really had them in in much snow, so I can't comment on that.

I won't buy anything from Firestone or General. I just don't trust Firestone and from what I have seen over the years they don't last all that long.

The factory General Ameriway XT tires are just about the worst ever made, and the similar ones that came on my friend's 2001 F150 were not much if any better. I'll never buy anything from General. They should be called Generic Tire.

I think that the Michelin LTX MS is just about the best tire you can get for all around use. They probably wouldn't be the best for a plow truck though.

I have ran BFGs on everything from muscle cars to tractor trailers and I have never had a good set of them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but from my extensive experience with these tires I will NEVER run a set of BFGs on anything that I own.

The best light truck tire I have found for running on the street, in the snow/ice, and light wheeling have been the Firestone Destination A/Ts. I've ran these on my 1 ton and Expo, and on a Ranger. They have performed flawlessly in multiple North Dakota winters, Texas summers, and in deep North Carolina Outer Banks sand. I've even rock crawled with them, though it wasn't too extreme. They wear very well but they do wear a little faster on the heaver trucks. On a 1/2 ton they'll wear great. Unless you are getting into really sloppy mud, or other nasty crap, these will serve you well. Though I haven't had a chance to run these yet, if you need something more aggressive I'd suggest the Destination M/Ts.

I would recommend Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. On dry pavement, they are very good, real good on gravel/sand and they have a severe service rating - the little mountain symbol on the side wall. A friend has a set and he really likes them in the snow. Best yet, they're very quiet on pavement.

Wheelworks had the best price on them for me.

Thoes are really good tires, BUT don't last all that long on the street. They will get you where you want to go off the hwy tho.
