Hello new here need some help with 1950 F3
#31
well thanks for the chart.
oh ok yeah well lmc says just brake pads for f1 and f2....so if i did the alxe swap to either an f2 or a dana 60 i would pretty much eliminate all the difference between an f2 and f3...so most interior, trim, mirrors etc are the same so i could get just about everything else for an f2 and it would fit and f3?
thanks again

oh ok phew for a second i was about to not but it because it seemed like i couldn't find any parts for it. But now that it is all worked out and f2 stuff will work for most everything except rear axle which i will swap out or find some tires?
why wouldn't ford 16.5 inch rims with 8 from like the early 80s truck not work, i thought i read that some guy have found certain 16 inch rims so you would think a 16.5 would work...what about the 3rd gen dodge 17 in rims?

The 17" Dodge rims probably fit, I've not tried them. The fit depends on the drop center design. The other thing I'd wonder about them is width. They'll be much wider than the stock wheels. It won't mattern on the rear but might on the front. We've heard a guy say that 16.5s fit, but I honestly don't understand why they would. Don't ask me to go into the technical stuff, but a 16.5 is a smaller wheel than a 16". Stu

oh ok thanks yeah maybe when i get the truck i will see about the 17s
but better to do this Parts Inventory - U Pull R Parts
so two of those will work? just have to be out of a f-250 year 73 and older? will it look wierd with that axle tire stick out to far?
So with the Dana 60 swap it is as easy as bolting it in and connecting brakes line, and drive shaft? then i would run the 8 bolt 16in rims on both axles....now i will have to find some decent looking 16 in rims...
thanks Stu i really appreciate you taking the time to talk to a complete newb...I really am thankful for all the help here!

I think Bob's statement was "pre-73 F-250". That'd be 1972 and earlier. The '73 and later ones were wider, except we've heard too that some F-350 flat bed axles after that date are good too. The way I remember reading it here, the axles that work best are the '67 to '70, maybe '71s. They are essentially a bolt in deal. There's something about the '72s that has to be modified but it's not a deal breaker. Drive shafts might also have to be custom done. That's not hard either, but adds cost. Stu

You asked a couple of questions on my visitor page and thought I'd reply here.
The standard Ford truck manual for our truck is the best resource you can buy. It will have 99% of the information you need to work on your truck. You can find them on eBay at least once a month for around $25-35 and worth every penny. You can also buy reprints from any of the reproduction Ford parts dealer like Dennis Carpenter and Mac's Auto Parts.
I have found most of the parts for my truck at NAPA, I've even gotten many parts for my '37 Buick. Also try Rock Auto, they have a very good web site and have the same parts as NAPA. They're usually cheaper than NAPA but you have to watch out for shipping charges. They add up quickly making your local NAPA very competitive, price wise.
Here are a few links:
Northern Classic Trucks,
Some body sheet metal parts, the most of anyone I've found:
www.northernclassictrucks.com
Dennis Carpenter
Major supplier of reproduction parts, mostly mechanical:
www.dennis-carpenter.com
Mac's AutoSells Dennis Carpenter and other reproduction parts:
www.macsautoparts.com
Job Lot Auto
Sells new parts for old Fords, some hard to get mechanical parts others don't sell, especially for the larger Ford trucks.
www.joblotauto.com
The Ford Barn
This is another reproduction parts dealer who is local to me in WI. He's an OK guy to deal with but I have found NAPA can usually beat his prices, as with Dennis Carpenter and Mac's but they can get some parts NAPA can't
www.thefordbarn.com
Rock AutoAn on line parts dealer. They have well known brands and decent prices but you have to watch out for shipping charges. They tend to ship parts from different warehouses and by doing so the charges add up.

These are just some of the places to check out, some one might post others.

All the rust/holes you see in this picture are the only ones on the truck, the wood floor is even solid
