Ok, so I set the timing right at about 6-8 btdc and it runs alot better, but its still cutting out on the top end. I think its a carburator issue. It has a new Holley vaccum secondary on it so im wondering if the secondaries arent kicking in enough. I may try replacing the pcv.

Thanks to you guys here I know what engine year, type, etc, I have. I have bought tons of new parts and it was running great for most of the summer. Just this weekend, I went to start it and was cranking real slow! I threw the charger on it for about 6 hours and when I tried again, still the same. I went and bought a new deep cell battery, installed it, same. The little it does crank created smoke from the valve cover breather. Any thoughts?? I'm stumped!

There was something on an earlier post from CTUBUTIS(?) that mentioned something about fuel from a dodgy fuel pump siphoning fuel into the sump. This will make it hard to turn over due to all the extra resistance. check your dipstick for the oil level and see if its too high and reassess accordingly. The valve cover is related directly to your engine internals so if there is anything being stirred up it may make a vapour.

I will check out the link, thanks! I did check the oil level though and it's perfect, as is the color of the oil. It's not milky, thin, or discolored in any way.
