flywheels & starters for 351 windsor
<TABLE width="100%" border=0 itxtvisited="1"><TBODY itxtvisited="1"><TR itxtvisited="1"><TD vAlign=top itxtvisited="1">I have a 1985 ford f-350 that i just put a 351 windsor in with a 5 speed transmission out of a 88 ford 6 cyl. Installed flywheel and starter out of the 6 cyl and it keeps eating the teeth off the starter. is there any differance in the flywheel and starter between the 2 motors. the flywheel bolts up, the truck will start and run with no viberation in the motor from using the 6 cyl flywheel but the starter sounds like its staying engaged. is there any difference between a 6 cyl starter and a 351 windsor starter, is the nose longer on the 6 cyl starter? or maybe i need to get a 351 windsor flywheel. if anyone can help me with this problem, it would be appreciated.
thanks chuck.

The 300 is an internal balanced engine while the 351w is externally balanced. So the flywheel needs to be correct, the 351w has a 28oz counterweight while the 300 has no extra couterweight attached to the rear of the flywheel.. Also the starters are the same for both engine but there are different staters for auto and manual trans. The auto has a longer nose cone.
