Convert to post style distributor cap???
I've got a new points style distributor in my truck which has been converted to a Pertronix set-up. I want to get a new cap and rotor, and plug wires. I'd like to go with MSD stuff, but they don't seem to make caps and rotors for the older distribtors. Also the selection of wires is much greater if you have a post style distributor cap,
So, my question is, does anyone make a distributor cap to convert the old female socket style to a post style. I want to keep the truck looking "period correct" so I can't just take the easy route and upgrade to more modern stuff.

What year is your engine/distributor?
Back in the mid 70s when they first went to the larger-diameter "post" style caps, they were still using the conventional smaller-diameter socket-tower caps at the same time. I did a Duraspark II conversion of my 1971 429 and I kept the smaller-diameter cap with the socket towers on it because I had limited space in the distributor area (and I think the larger cap would have interfered with the stock air cleaner housing as well).
If I were you, I'd head on down to the local parts store and have a look at some of the various stock caps from mid-70s to mid-80s fords. I believe that you can switch right over to the larger cap (and adapter ring since the larger cap is only the top), along with the corresponding rotor, on your existing distributor.

i just ordered a set of plug wires for the 429 (9mm ford racing) and it came with the female ends for the dizzy.had to figure out the best option from here.
last i knew the HEI was a chevy thing.i don't want my 429 resembling a chevy.
besides i think iv still got an accel super coil kicking around someplace.gotta keep her old school...ish.
(someone already updated the '68 429's dizzy from points to electronic via a kit.)
