Towing a Mustang with my 06 XLT

Im gonna be towing my 93GT with my 06 XLT in a couple weeks... i'll probably be renting a car trailer from U-haul (unless a better source can be found) and am wondering if there is anything i need to know before doing so?

I figure i'll back the car on the trailer so the tongue weight would be decreased (maybe?).

This is going to be my first time towing anything with any of my vehicles... i've driven my buddy's rollback tow truck a couple times but this i imagine will be considerably different.

I'll be towing from Baltimore, MD to Richmond, VA so i imagine it'll be a good 4 hour trek.

Any help would be appreciated.

A 93 GT hatchback weighs 3300 lbs, notch is 3100, vert is 3500 so we'll go with the happy medium of 3300 not to mention most GTs were hatchbacks. Weight ratio in those is 60/40 so you backing it on is probably a good idea depending on how the trailer is setup.

Regardless of which model of stang you have, it combined with the trailer is not even going to be close to going over any weight limits. I'd say your biggest issue is going to be getting that GT up the ramps without tearing up the front air dam...

As far as driving... you should get used to the trailer pretty fast, it isn't as hard as you'd think but you have to be really aware of your surroundings and plan your braking accordingly. Take turns wide and suspect every other driver of being a complete idiot so as to not be dissapointed. Also double check all lights, signals etc... for the trailer before you do anything. God forbid someone rear-ends you and wrecks your trailer/stang/truck and you didn't have the lights working... any lawyer with a pulse will clean you out.

That was very helpful!

Funny you should mention the front airdam... Its been torn up already going up and down the alignment machine's ramps... After the chassis work that will be performed on this trip, its off to the body shop for a touch up and a color change... I'm pumped to finally get this project moving...
