300 I6 is eating distributor gear
Hello everyone! I'm new to the FTE site but have been on forums for a couple years now. Mainly the powerstroke ones but am in need of some info on the 300 gasser. As you can tell by the title I have a 300 that is eating distributor gears and can't seem to get the problem to go away. The engine is in a 88 F150 but it's not stock. The truck has been built into a prerunner (8 year project) and the engine was converted from EFI to a carburator. Did a mild build on the engine and installed parts from Clifford Performance in it and that includes some head work, intake manifold, headers, and a cam. Also put in a mallory distributor. 8 years later finally got the truck drivable and after 100 miles the distributor gear busted. Well fixed that and now the replacement gear is wearing out. Does anyone know what would cause this and possibly a fix. I was thinking of repowering it but that may be another 8 years before that happens.
