1995 F150 reputation?
I picked up a 1995 4x4 f150 the other day that was destin for the scrap yard. The converter had already been removed but they didnt do a hack job of it so shouldnt be too bad to put in a test pipe until i figure out if I want to keep it or not.
I put in a battery and it fired up after the second round of cranking, Runs strong but loud of course with no exaust. Pulls against the brakes right to the point of stalling.
The bad is the brake pedel goes to the floor, but it has brakes? It is wierd. I havent seen one like that before except the ones run by the powersteering pump when a line blew. This is a vacumme system or appears to be. Also i am used to F250's and noticed the front end is built really wierd, like a split front axle? Never seen anything like it but the diff looks like a dana 44 with square tubes welded onto it.
Any info on the above would be great but also wondering what kind of reputation these trucks have. it has a straight 6 in it seems to run really good. Is manual with a manual 4wd shifter. Manual hubs nice and simple looking. Interior isint bad at all. I have been needing a backup vehicle and this may fit the bill.

Well, for starters, you have the best, most reliable setup for a backup vehicle: An Inline 6....300,000 miles is not unheard of, and of course, without major issues....
Second, the front end is a TTB (Twin Traction Beam)....And as far as the differential, you're pretty close, if not spot on....BTW, the TTB isn't a BAD setup....Just can't do any major lifts, etc with it...You'll need a straight axle for that.
And third, given that you change all the fluids (Transfer case too!), and do a good general maintenance check off, it'll give you thousands of miles of good, reliable service....
Be sure to change the plugs, wires, and distributor cap and rotary button....All in all, about $75-100 worth of good insurance....And for the record, the plugs will need a .044" gap...
Also, make sure to grease the balljoints (Makes'em easier to replace in the case of them wearing out) and all the other lube points...(Tierod ends, driveline, etc....)
So there ya have it.....Any more question, just ask....Also, the I6's do NOT have a timing chain...They have Timing GEARS...Same difference...just don't have to worry about popping a chain...

I think the reason it was destin for the scrap is because of people getting "sick of putting money into it"
i see it all the time, people own an old truck from brand new and bitch when they have to start on repairs and stuff when it starts aging so they figure its worth nothing because of a small issue they dont wanna fix...makes me SICK!
