what the best oil for the 6.9 IDI?

Hi Guys. Ive got a 6.9 Navistar running in an 84 f100 right hook (aussie) ute here in New Zealand.
About to do an oil change (first since we have owned it) (cant get genuine ford filter for it so have got WIX 51742 filter).
What is the best oil to run in them? Ive worked out it to be a 15w40 for our temp range, but is anyone finding using a certain oil keeps them quieter? better running? lasting longer? etc etc (IE - I have a 5L hiace van that always runs best on Shell Rimula for example)
Also, any tips for tricks for the oil change? and what size replacement sump plug washer?
All Helpful input appreciated!!

I run Motorcraft brand 15w40 because I tried Rotella and it burned it off within a week. i have yet to use Delo because the Motorcraft is working so well.

I run shell rotella and am happy with it, will i say it's for sure better then anything out there, no but it does the job. Honestly id find out what the PO ran in it and continue with that, motors sometimes don't like swapping oils.

motorcraft? thats thru a ford franchise??
Over here, the motorcraft brand i am aware of is the ford parts and service.

I know the rotella is available here.

Its a 60,000 mile old engine (new in 94), doesnt blow any smoke, fume, etc... so next to new, and am wanting to keep it what way.

Yes, i hear what your saying about some engines dont like changing oils - it has been running a AC Delco oil in it, but not sure what type etc....

wow... nice extra cab...... looks good. that is ideally what i was after originally!!

Thanky. And yes here in the states we can get motorcraft at the wal-mart if you know what they are and it is ford parts and service. Any 15-40 that meets the required CF-4 specs, CJ-4 is even better. If the ac delco oil meets these id just stick with it.

Really any diesel rated oil should work fine for you, in the right viscosity. 15W-40 is popular for diesel oil and you should be able to find that at your local supply. Any brand is OK assuming they are diesel rated.

yep, trying to work out how to load a pic. basically its an 84, XLT 2wd LWB, single cab. white top, blue bottom. Its got the 6.9 navistar in it, with a c6 up its date. 8&3/4 diff, 3.55 LSD. Nice exhaust note, done with balance pipe, etc.
The Downside so far to this ute, is that somebody has put a 99ish F150 deck on the back. so looks totally wrong. Im going to start looking in Aussie or USA for a proper Welldeck and canopy to put back on it. OR look at a "era" flat deck to be built for it, with an underbody tipper, useful for carrying bikes, garden rubbish, etc....
