Do I need any mods to run biodiesel?

Just wondering if I would need to run anything different if I would use biodiesel in my 6.0?

From what I understand, no. But, you want to start slowly. Start with a B5 (5%) and work your way up to B100 (100%). You'll also need to change your fuel filters as well, cuz the bio will clean all the crud out. I'd love to start, but no bio diesel around me that I'm aware of. Kinda crazy since I'm in such a liberal/democratic state.

Retail biodiesel is sometimes cheaper, but your fuel mpg drop by about 8%. Often the price is right about 8% less - funny that. Sometimes, like winter, or when diesel is fairly cheap ($2.50/gal), biodiesel is much more expensive. It often depends on the oil/fat used to make it. If you want soy or rapeseed bio, then you are gonna pay a pretty penny. Palm oil is generally the least expensive, but it turns solid at about 65F. Are you totally bored yet?

Anyway, if you get some, throw it in - you can go straight to b100 if you want, but you'll want to change your fuel filters after a tank or two. If you go to b100, you need to figure out the chill point, so you will know if you fuel is solid or not before you ruin your injectors trying to start it. I keep a mason jar of bio outside near my truck - if it looks like mayonnaise, time to take a different vehicle.

Dan, great info. Surely a topic that will become more popular.

If diesel gets more expensive - $5-6/gal, biodiesel may not rise as much and the spread could make it quite a money saver. Everyone will "go green" as soon as it is cheaper. For me it is more of a hobby

Id love to use it just for the cleaning and lubricating factors. Only downside is it quiets things down a little. BOOOO!

And the truck smells like burnt french fries (which might as well be perfume in the diesel world). It also harder to "roll coal"

I like french fries, but "rollin coal" means your wasting fuel. My SRL tune blows a tiny bit of smoke, which clears up as soon as the turbo lights. Just wish there was some bio around me somewhere. Would love to run a few tanks to clean things out.
