Ford C6/NP205 removal and re-installation guide .: Articles Here is an article about dropping a C6 4x4 trans. It is unlikely you have a C6 but the proceedure would be similar.
Once the trans is out you just slide the converter off of the trans input shaft and slide the new one on. It is important that the new one is fully seated so rotate it as many times as necessary untill you get it to slide fully back. Then refit trans and bolt everything up and fill trans with fresh fluid (Mercron V spec.).

Make especialy sure that it clicks twice when sliding the converter back in, you may have to turn it side to side while it engages with two clicks. Never force the motor and transmission back together, if the converter is installed correctly the motor and tranny will bolt back together with no effort.

4x4

I was most concerned about the 4x4 unit as well as the tranny. I have replaced, a tranny and a bell housing before along with the converter, long long ago. I have never however changed out a 4 wheel drive transfer unit.

Just leave the transfercase attached to the transmission.

Isn't that going to be quite a a heavey sucker to try to reinstall? I know when I replaced transmission years ago, I had to twist the tranny this way and that to get it to seat, that with out a 4x4 unit was, if I can remember pretth hard, and I was youg then.

I do however understand tha leaveing it together would be a lot easier, guess I will have to get help. Thanks for your help.

Any one know where to get a converter that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have tried to search for one, the best I saw was 329 dollars, but, I was only able to locate two.

removing the transfer case is no big deal. Just remove the bolts holding it to the adapter and slide it off.
Try tciauto.com and wittrans.com for a converter.

converter

I looked through the converters and realized, that I do no know what type of tranny I have.

This is the second 93 f150 I have owned. The first was an XL this one is an XLT. This one does not have the button on the gear shift, for overdrive. My XL had the button on the gear shift for over drive. So I guess they are two different styles of trannies. The transmission I have now has 14 bolts on the pan.

Can you tell from this info which tranny I have, it is a 4x4 if that makes any difference.

The engine is a 302

As far as converters go, I highly recommend talking to Alan at Dirtydog Performance. http://www.dirtydogperformance.com/index.php

talking

I am pretty sure right off the bat, if I have to talk to someone before I get a converter, it will cost more than I want to pay.

I am looking to get a remanufactured unit somewhere ( stock )

Thanks for the help. Still do not know what tranny I have, the two with the 14 bolt is the one I have, but which one I don't know.

aod or aode ////// I am guessing that since I do not have a manual button to push to engage or disengage overdrive, that mine is the electronic which I guess, because it does it itself.

This is just my guess I need to know for sure before I order a Converter, which I cannot do till I know the exact, and for sure tranny. Returning crap is a big hassle I do not want.

I am almost 100% sure if you have a '93 that it is an AODE. Ford started using AODE's in '92. If you have wires or a plug going into the transmission on the passenger side, AODE.

He does build "stock reman" type torque converters, too. I think you would be surprised at his prices, but it's up to you whether or not you look into your options here.

Does your shifter indicator have a OD and D? Is there a TV ("kickdown") cable attached to your throttle body?

tranny

I know it is a four speed and that it does not have a manual button that allows you to take it down a gear. I did have a 93 with the button.

I am leaning that it is an aode too.

I will get in touch with the converter vender you mentioned just to see thanks

dirty dog has no listing for remanufactured converters, plus they want core which would involve more shipping costs. Lowest price unit they had was 100 over the remanfactured unit I found on EBay
