2008 f350 dually xlt 6.4 with 4.10 gears

Ok, I went from a dodge cumins geeting roughly 20 mpg around town and 25-28 on the road under 2k rpms to this truck.

AAround town so far best on the dash meter is 11.4 avg mpg.

I took a trip this past weekend and spent a lot of money on fuel.

It did about 3 or 4 regens on cleaning the exhaust filter in 180 miles.

The avg went to 10.4 or less and I was steady at about 2200 rpms going 65 mph.

Now what do I need to do to get this diesel sucking beast to be a little more fuel friendly instead of drinking diesel?

At this rate when I tow a 12k 5th wheel my mpg is going to be very bad!

Well, lets start with the basics. I take it you just bought it.

Oil and fuel filters changes are important. Every 10K for fuel filters and then the oil should be every 5K.

So were they done? If so by whom..and only use OEM for the right fit.

Next, how about your coolant? Check the degas bottle, ford gold coolant or the NAPA one that meets for SPEC's. Are you eating any coolant?

Finally what about your tail pipes? Clean/dirty/grayish? Pictures help.

Sweet spot is less than 2K rpms and stay off the boost.

Also this is a much heavier truck than you previously had.

The only way to see mileage close to your cummins is to do a DPF delete... I assume your Cummins was pre DPF era?

All the maintanance etc. is very important, but will never get your mileage to where your Cummins was.

2008/f350 dually with 4:10 gears. Abq NM.
Well to get better fuel mileage.

1st proper maintenance nis REQUIRED. (Fuel filters only use Motorcarft, every 10k miles always drain water seperator/ oil rotella T6 with a quart of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer (I do 8000k miles intervals)
its expensive but has to be done.

You have to buy a tuner and prolly keep the stock 17s on the truck. I have heard people switching to 19.5 with semi tires. Don't know the fuel mileage. Also when getting a tuner I suggest h and s mini maxx or black maxx. People Have different opinions. You choose whats best for you. This is just my experience. Make sure he plugs into your trucks computer, helps your transmission shift faster with. The tuner and keeps your turbo boost and rpm levels lowered.

I currently own a 08 Ford dually with 4:10.
235/80/17. Lie.o.meter says 18.5-20.0mpg. Always minus 2.0 points and you'll get your exact. Mileage. Also has straight pipe and NO CAT OR DPF.

Well when I first bought the truck in Colorado springs with 77,000 mikes back in 2014 of November. I got screwed in fuel mileage from anywhere of 7mpg to maybe 9mpg 38 gallon tank 280-300 MILES PER TANK BOO!!!!

Brought it back home to Albuquerque NM, and took it to my guy, and he worked his magic H AND S MINI MAXX . STRAIGHT PIPE NO CAT OR DPF. Currently I have 312,993 in April 2016. NOW I GET AROUND 17.0-18.5 mpg 550-680 miles per tank empty and 400-470 loaded 10.0-12.0 mpg. I can do a steady 75 mph at ¼ turbo and 2,250 rpms. Instead of between half and three quarter turbo and at 70mph 3000 rpms before TUNER .Depends on weather conditions. Wind mostly.

YOU CAN DEFINITELY GET BETTER FUEL MILEAGE, ITS UP TO YOU WHAT yOUR EXPENSES LOOK LIKE. I HAVE THE SAME.TRUCK you have. THIS IS MY STORY. GOOD LUCK
