Steering Shaft is FUBAR!

Steering Shaft is FUBAR!
Never had this much trouble pulling a steering wheel. The shaft split. I got it squeezed back together and tack welded it. On the ID. Put a solid spacer between shaft and end of puller bolt. Then I stripped out the treads on the puller. I still have not got the wheel off. I will get it off, eventually. If I cannot fix the end of the shaft? My question is. What years of shaft will interchange on my '53? Thanks.

'53-'55 are interchangable due to length changes. There are aftermarket shaft/worm assemblies avaialable through Sacramento Vintage, Mac's, Concours Parts, and I believe Mid-Fifty as well. Just had this discussion on another thread, NOS is not available, or extremely hard to find, so you may be settling on aftermarket. Country of manufacture seems to be a debatable topic on them though, as well as authenticity. I just purchased a worm gear (without shaft) through Mac's, and I know the shaft and worm assembly is in the $175-$200 range. They ARE readily available, in aftermarket replacement, NOT readily available in NOS. Some feel only NOS is good enough, and all others are junk/unuasble, but I firmly disagree, and have had plenty of good luck with the aftermarket parts, that look, absolutely identical to OE.

Hope this helps. Bye.

Thanks, NumberDummy. I found LMC has them for $159.95. That is aftermarket. Will call these two places. Thanks again.
