thoughts on a project 400

I've got a '77 F250 Supercab 2wd. It has a 351M right now. But I think I want to build a 400 for it over the next year. This is what I am wanting,so any advice would be greatly appreciated;
8.5-9.0 compression, this Comp cam hydraulic roller 32-411-8,5.0 lifters and spider,Aussie heads,straight up timing set(Cloyes),Edelbrock Performer w/EGR(have to pass smog),adjustable valve train w/Scorpion roller rockers,Quadrajet carb,HEI. I plan on having it balanced,block squared,align honed,what ever oil mods needed.
I am looking for drivability,torque for towing and being able to pass emissions.
The truck has a 4spd manual trans,4.10 rear gears,and I will running 235x85x16's.
Does this sound doable? Thanks

Aussie heads are good, but have you considered Edelbrock heads?

By the time you fix Aussie you could just about have Edelbrocks.

torque plate block!

torque plate block! this is when you hone block and have torque plate to simulate head bolts stressing block. The cylinders will move around on bore diameter. Highly reccomend torque plating block.

Yeah I know about torque plates. I use to work in a machine shop rebuilding engines.I have built ALOT of small/big chevys,and small fords. This is my second 400 Ford. The first one was for a '73. I did all the machine work,LPG Nylen pistons,.060 overbore,comp 268 high energy cam,stock heads,edelbrock performer intake. But before I got it together, I sold the project. I torque plate honed it,then platue (sp?) honed,balanced,polished beams on rods, ARP rod bolts,align honed,squared block. I know a little, but was mainly wondering about the combo to pass smog.....egr being functional. Thanks for the advice anyway.

I appreciate what response I have gotten, but after 203 views, I figured someone would tackle it. Oh well I will look elsewhere.

On the quadrajet I don't mess with! If you know a good carb guy with what you got I think anything is possible. MSD ignition is mandatory or some type of multistrike ignition. What duration is that cam. I would assume a cam with minimal overlap is the ticket. I don't run comp cams anymore but have ran the 268 back in the day, good cam. Learned a lot for 4wds application. Minimal overlap is the ticket. getting clean air/fuel in out as efficient as possible. I pretty much use MPG heads for all my cam builds anymore, scott will fix you up if and reasonable. hope this helps! What are your NOX/CO, O2 and emmission standard/test for your area?

looked up your cam.

I did a 302 with 252hyd comp cam once. very good mileage and smooth but never tested on emmissions. 1985 ford 4wd f-150 18 mpg. My dad was a lovin it. Was lookin at pricing and I would give mpgheads a call. The tech support I get is awesome and scott is the cutter and extremely knowledgeable. Since your a ford guy he's a guy you need to know. I know their are many good guys out their but I know mpgheads is one of them especially in ford world. Pricing is about the same. Actual real world dyno time. Also on torque plate of block I belive this will help on emmissions also. Just by having the cleanest air fuel and minimal residual oil in cylinder the better. I do emmission testing on industrial engine but never our play toys. Another site to check out is www.wallisracing.com has many cool calculators on their to play with. Next question is why a quadrajet carb? I never tuned on a quadrajet much. Done edlebrock and holley types and prefer the holley types. catch you later.
