1997 F250 351 emissions and exhaust
Well I have currently learned that all 1996-1997 vehicles over 8600lbs gvw were not required to have obd1 and it is almost impossible to do a emissions test on them here in Texas.
What do I mean?
I work at a shop, when you put the vehicle information into the system, I.E. the vin and the year model it will only let you put the correct year model, I.E. 1997. When you put in 1996 or newer into the machine it will ONLY allow you to do a OBD test, which requires a OBDII port. The HD's do not have this, what do the inspectors do? They click yes it is connected and it passes. No tail pipe test, no computer examination, nothing. Now from what I have been told at the dealership they have a OBDI-OBDII connector to allow the machine to check the OBDI system for codes, we all know that if you have no catalytic converter the computer will not have a code set, but you will fail a tail pipe test. 1996-1997 HD exempt from emissions? I am out to find out more information but for now I think they might be, just make sure you don't have a check engine light on and you pass. There is a catch though, there is a visual check if they are picky, that you will fail if there is no converter seen.
I am going to be removing my converter (worth approx $120 here) for straight pipe and then trying to get my truck re inspected.
heres a exhaust video of the current setup

I live in an area of TX where they check emissions. My truck is a 1996 F250 and the emission test consists of checking the Check Engine Light for operation(turns on when key on, goes off when truck started) and the presence of emmision equipment e.g. catalytic converter. There's no hooking it up to the machine, and there's no tail pipe sniffer check. You may be better hollowing out the cat so it at least "looks" legit.
