Gas guage change 52 F1

Gas guage change 52 F1
In my 52 F1 the gas guage quit working so I traced the wire down and disconected from the tank and grounded it out but the guage stayed on full always stays on full. Took the gas sending unit apart and didn't find anything there that was unusal so put it back together and on the tank again. Tested the wire with key on and it gave me 8 omhs. Hooked the wire to the sending unit and still got 8 ohms and gas guage still on full.
Got under the dash and looked over the gas guage and couldn't find anything there so I took the old reducer wire a loose from all the guages and made a new one. Same thing. I had an old guage in the garage so I changed the gas guage in the insterment panel with this one and low and behold when I installed it and hooked it up it was on E and when I cut the key on it went to 1/4 tank. Went to gas station and filled up but this guage I put in only goes to a little past 3/4 tank when tank is full. So is there an adjustment on these guages to adjust it to the full mark? If there is do I need to do that and if I do will it change the needle from going all the way to E when emty? Anyway I know I got a full tank of gas now instead of a 1/4 tank and old guage still read full.
Any ideas would be taken kindly,

Did you shake the float when you checked out the sending unit? The originals are made from two pieces of copper soldered together.
Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float slowly settles to the bottom of the tank.
Carpenter has reproduced the float...if this is the problemo. Also has the sending unit.

The float is good as I put a new one on it when I cleaned the tank a while back and yes I did shake the float. That was the problem I had when I first got the truck a few years back. But my problem was that the gas guage allways read full even when the tank was half empty. so after checking everything out today (wire, ohms and took the sending unit apart) the guage still read full. I grounded the wire to the sending unit with the key on and no change in the guage. I had an old guage in the garage and put it on and it went to 1/4 tank so I went and filled the tank and this guage only goes up to 3/4 of a tank. So I was wondering if there is an adjustment on the guage like the temp guage to make it read all the way to full instead of the 3/4's when tank is full and still go to E when tank is empty. Any ideas?

There is no adjustment to the gauge itself. Pull the sender out and make sure it moves easily through it's arc without hanging up or sticking. You can check the sender once it is removed (with the wires hooked up) turn the key on and slowly move the float arm while watching the gauge. If it works OK you can bend down the float arm (wire) a little and see if that helps. Kinda like bending the arm in your toilet to make it stop running
