Cool The $75.00 fuel limit at the pumps / A new problem

This threw me today.
Got gas in the very early a.m at brand X.
Limit $75.00 with pump shutoff (its a visa-master-card issue).
Went to re-fuel later in the day at a Sunoco station and was told " you have purchased you max on this card of the $75.00 in fuel for the 24 hours allowed".
I called visa and wanted an explanation and was told it was not them.
Called and verified, all Sunoco stations across the country have it set up that they will only sell you $75.00 in 24 hours and can tell if your card has been used elsewhere, even a different brand.
Answer, don't buy Sunoco gas. It's too expensive anyway. But had to avoid when you are on a turnpike especially in NJ.

That's good to know, because there is one Sunoco station in PA that I usually stop at. Traveling back and forth between NY and VA makes the truck thirsty.

That has to be the dumbest business approach I've ever heard.

+1. I thought so, too. You can drop $2000 on plastic at Best Buy for a new TV no problem, but Heaven forbid you buy more than $75 of gas.

Dumb.

why anyone would buy gas or diesel on the new jersey turnpike or garden state parkway is beyond comprehension. they regularly charge .25 to .50 cents per gallon more than stations off the toll roadway.

Most stations around here (Knoxville) will cut off at $75, but you can put the card back in and start pumping again.

Same thing here in Omaha. I just wish they'd raise it to $100 for the diesel pumps. What a pain.

i've been dealing with $100 limits since i bought my excursion and 44 gallon tank. now with $4.10 gas i just fillup at half a tank insted of dealing with swiping twice...takes forever and pisses me off.

That's common knowledge for a local resident but when I travel to Maine via the NJ TP or the GSPW, it's the cheapest fuel all along the entire route except for my initial fill up in Va. Hell, I wish every state made it as easy to get fuel, food and relax for a minute as NJ does.

On edit, there's no max purchase with cash.

Times change. When I was a pump jockey, we had to call in--via phone--anything over $10.

Some of the stations here that were $75 seem to have dropped it if I'm remembering correctly. I haven't hit a $75 limit recently.

Last diesel $4.599, last gas $4.219. It ain't gettin' better.

when i was a pump jockey, there was no such thing as credit cards, and 1f you put $15 in the tank, you drove a pontiac or suburban with a 30+ gallon tank.

I usually try to fill up when one tank is empty that way I can squeeze under the 75 limit. Paying cash is a pain cause then you have to stand in line twice.

So, you were pumping gas in 1918 - 1924 or so?

During the last price spike, I was moving driving my 6.5mpg FE-powered F250, and hit a station that had a $35 limit. WTF? I could go in and pay the estimated amount I needed with cash or card, but at the pump $35 was all you got.
