SAS 60 vs 70

I have the dana 50ttb up front, and I beileve a 60 in the aft, lookin to do an sas at the end of summer when i might actually be able to afford it and live on more than pb and crackers for the winter. just wonder what the pros and cons would be of doing so, the range of years I can pull from, buddy of mine has a set of 70s he might be willing to part with. I've been crusing the web tryin to find out the ratios and what that means as far as power n all that, Im not really the sharpest tool in the shed at times so i was hoping some one might be able to break it down. Although I'm pretty new to the world of truck building, I'm handy with a wrench and only once taken a rig into a shop(downtown Seattle rush hour traffic with out a master cyl. aint much fun), but I need to get home, and didn't have the tools with me to do it myself. Long story short, Im lookin for simple laymans terms on soild axles, not nessicaraly how to swap, I aim to figure that out along the way, just wondering what my opitions are and if anything needs done to the rear. once I get er goin I'd like to start a build thread similar to Marine5811/Alex.

1990 f250 4x4 7.5 want to build her up

Maybe the better question is where do I start? Aimin for at least a 4" lift, bigger tires, straight pipe, no emmisions here in WY so I wouldnt mind loosing the cat.

(currently runnin235/85/16) aiming for muddin, but also need something that will do well in the snow, trouble is I know the 'better' muds dont do too well on packed snow, which is mostly what I encounter. kinda fixin to make a "recovery rig" kinda of thing, pull, dig and temp fix m buddies out of a mess

you currently have a sterling 10.25 in the rear. find a dana 60 from a 86.5 to 96 F350 to swap into your truck.
the 86.5 to 91 or 92 D-60 is a kingpin axle, the later ones are ball joints. most people prefer the kingpin axles.

I always heard to use the axles out of a 78-79 era truck because it was almost a direct bold on from the TTB system. But that might be a D44 not a D60 im not sure. But I always heard about doin the swap for a 150 not a 250, maybe theres a difference in the frame setup that makes it easier for the heavier duties. I could see where it makes sense to use the same era truck to do the swap though, makes more sense to me atleast lol.

A D60 from 87-96 will fit right on, the holes are in the frame already. You need the axle, drive shaft, any brackets and mounts and the track bar, tie rods, etc. Find a F350 at a yard or someone parting out and take the entire front suspension hole and your set.

35's at 70mph with 4.10's in 1:1 gear(no od) gives 2755 rpm's. there is an easy calculator on 4lo.com for all this kind of info. I'm not too sure of where the power band is in a 7.5 but this should help you get started.
