What oil for 5.4
#32
Ok .... first of all My engine is not toast... Yes my engine has some high miles on it and like MOST older engines theyll start to burn oil ... So yes i went up to 20 50 like my mechcanic said to and switched from peenzoil to castrol and it made huge differnce in how the engine runs !! I never said it was a new engine !!! and it pulls as hard as some these new ones out here

The idea w/ Lucas is preventing startup wear more than changing viscosity. I was off the grid for years generating my own power w/ small (7000 watt) generators. I averaged about 1500 hours between required rebuilds of the engines. I started using a couple of ounces of Lucas in the generators and the times between rebuilds went up to about 7000 hrs. That, to me, was better evidence of what Lucas does for preserving an engine than anything anybody was going to write about it. I have one vehicle now that requires Dexos pure synthetic oil (and have read articles saying that ANYTHING else will reduce the engine's longevity), and I use the recommended Dexos in that. All my other vehicles get Lucas added (I have a small farm and including tractors, change oil on 8 vehicles regularly) get Lucas added with every 5k or annual oil change. NONE of them burn a drop between changes. The oil level on the stick is exactly where it was the previous change, and all are over 100,000 miles or 1500 hours and a couple are near 300k and still flawless. You might be right about the Lucas being unnecessary, but you'll never convince me. Experience has taught me Lucas is like liquid gold when it comes to preserving engines.
