Brake Job Parts

I've gone through my usual catalogues and various parts sources but I am having a difficult time finding parts for my 52 F6 brake job I'm about to tackle and don't know if there is some part interchange information or other vendor part numbers and sources that would be helpful... What I'm looking for (Source parts numbers from the 49-52 Ford F-Series Trucks Shop Manual):

8t-2005 Vacuume Brake Booster 7 1/2" Diameter (Quanity 1)
91T-2010/1 Front Brake Wheel Cylinder 1 1/4" Diameter (Quanity 2)
91T-2209/10 Rear Brake Wheel Cylinder 1 1/2" Diameter (Quanity 2)
92Y-2019-A Primary Shoe (Quanity 4)
92Y-2019-A Secondary Shoe (Quanity 4)
Shoe Linings:
15 33/64 x 2 Front Primary (Quanity 2)
16 5/8 x 3 1/2 Rear Primary (Quanity 2)
10 3/4 x 2 Front Secondary (Quanity 2)
11 33/64 x 3 1/2 Rear Secondary (Quanity 2)

Any other tidbits on this job would be welcome... I've seen an arguement on another forum posting about where the check valve is (Master Cylinder or Vacuume Boost) and if the Master Cylinders obtrained these days need to have the valve removed for proper operation with a Vacuume Boost system. Also, I've seen some mention about having to bleed the Vacuume Boost but not sure if or what needs to be done.

Do you not have any of these parts, or just looking for new replacements? If you have a booster, it can be rebuilt, if it really needs it. New shoes these days come with linings installed already, so you probably don't have to look for shoes and linings. If you have shoes, they can be relined (that's why linings were sold separately) at a local brake or machine shop.

I just happen to be parting out a '52 F-6, so if there's anything specific in the way of good used parts you need, send be a PM.

I'm looking for new parts as the as the history of the truck lead me to believe that the parts have never been serviced (i.e. original everything from boots to liners to hoses). I'm also getting kickback on the brake pedal indicating an issue I presume with the hi-power brake booster.

So, the diaphram in the Brake Booster is shot big time... I don't know where I can get it rebuilt locally and I would just feel better about a whole replacement unit. After looking at other posts on this forum, I found that NAPA of all places may have a solution:

MBI RV46201X - this is supossed to be a Midland C447 replacement, but the picture looks a little funny and different than mine...

NBB 518026 - is a Midland C462C/H and is supposidly the same as a C447 with the exception of the mounting hardware, but the pictures I have seen show that the vaccume line is not threaded like the C447 and a few other things...

Anyone with valueble insight, please chime in.

OK, so this guy wouldn't exactly be local to you, but he does come highly recommended by several people. I had him rebuild my own booster (not exchange) for my 64 Thunderbird and he did a great job with a quick turnaround time. Because of that fact it's difficult to know exactly what you need or what you'll get when you order something, having the one you already own redone ensures you get the right part back on the truck with no hassles. Give him a call and see what he can do for you. It would be worth the shipping to know you have the right stuff done right.

The Midland remote brake booster was used for many years. I even have seen rebuilt ones on the Summit website. See if any of your local auto parts stores can order a rebuilt from Cardone, and see if they list an interchange for your application. Fitting connections can be adapted, but what really matters are diaphram diameter and piston diameter.

C447 vs C462 Update

Booster Dewey doesn't do Midland C447 rebuilds (or other big trucks really).

JobLot dosn't carry the 8T-2005 Brake Booster

Rick (or Rich) at Midland Power Brakes explained in real good detail to me that the C447 was quickly replaced by the C462 and that a rebuild of a C447 was impossible (parts are not available) and so they are upgraded to a C462. The only real differences between the two are in the mounting and the C462 is a little longer and that the vacuum input is not threaded on the C462 like on the C447. He assured me that these are not insurmountable by anymeans.

The two part numbers I posted earlier (MBI RV46201X and NBB 518026) from NAPA are definitly for the C462, however availability is questionable.

53-60something used Midland C462s and those are rebuildable and available.

I'm in the process of replacing the brake booster and figured I'd share some pics:

Off Topic just a little bit: If you have a kitty and access to kitty litter, through some on that oil spill. Surprisingly it works wonders. What I do is let is soak for a few minutes then mash it around with my boot and it is gone like magic. BTW...I love your truck.

p.s. not the 'clumping kind' though.

I've got two kitties and after the picture, did exactly that. I wasn't expecting there to be THAT much brake fluid in the booster, but when the seals go bad, stuff goes where it shouldn't... like brake fluid into the vacuum line into the engine and burnt out the exhaust (not to mention scary pedal kick-back when trying to stop!)
