Ford currently is just as non-interchangeable as always. Windsor and Romeo parts are different.

According the the read in post #3, "Modular engine did not get its name from its design or sharing of certain parts among the engine family. Instead, the name was derived from a manufacturing plant protocol, "Modular", where the plant and its tooling could be changed in a few hours to manufacture different versions of the engine family."

FYI: The V6 EcoBoost engines are being assembled at Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1 in Brook Park, Ohio.

That's right...the engine is not modular....the equipment used to build it is.
