Quick question about an EGR valve vacuum solenoid
pretty simple question I just got my order in with the EGR position sensor and EGR valve vacuum solenoid and I was told at some point when not install blowing through the ports on the vacuum solenoid that no air should pass through it if it's good......well I can easily blow through this one and couldn't as easily with the junk yard special I got off a different truck SO lol what do ya'll say does that necessarily mean it's defective or was I given false information in the first place. AND lastly can it be tested via a voltmeter prior to install???

If you can blow on the bottom port and air comes out, then yeah it's bad. The PCM controls the solenoid allowing vacuum to pass thru the top(out) port and thus to the EVP sensor.
NOTE: Be sure to replace the EGR Vaccum Solenoid with the right Color one. They come in (2) different colors. Grey and Black. And yes they do act differently.

Ryan's overview of the EVR should answer your questions: Ford Fuel Injection » EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR)
The important point to make here is the proper positioning of the EVR and where to attach the vacuum lines.

checked out that link... and yeah everythings routed as per oem specs but the bottom port on this new sensor I can pull air or push air through the bottom(From Vacuum Source) port theres some resistance but it definitely doesn't seal off irregardless of whether you blow or suck on the port so I'm thinking Defective part unless told otherwise. now could it be possible that one hooked up and powers being supplied to it that this won't be the case or should that make any difference???
also it is the correct one black, so thats not an issue Should I go ahead and install it and see if the truck still generates a code or send it back to Rockauto as a defective part???? I'm contemplating calling Wells on Monday and asking them specifically if THEY would consider it defective

I know when I check the EGR vacuum circuit with a vacuum pump it will not hold a vacuum for very long. I replaced an EVR because I thought it was defective. The new tested exactly the same.
From FordFuelInjection.com: "When the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) is off, both ports vent slowly to atmosphere." That tells me the EVR works like a controlled leak. My limited testing confirms that statement. Maybe someone else has proof/experience otherwise?

Hmm so your saying it aint defective then???
Hmm I was going off of step 3 last sentence on here How to Test EGR Solenoid | eHow.com so basicly at this point I'm uncertain theres that and the fact Conanski at some point told me that if RPM changes by removing the hose going to the EGR it'self and it's pulling vacuum at idle that the solenoids bad. I Honestly don't know cause I've never had to replace one of the damn things but I figure it can't hurt to install it and see if it works or not. if not theres always the recourse of rma'ing the thing and getting a replacement but I'd really prefer not to have to do that. Thanks everybody for the information thus far I sincerely appreciate it
