What is the shift pattern for the ZF 5 speed? Just curious.

Edit: Okay, it looks like they have the typical shift pattern of:
1 3 5
| | |
2 4 R

Is that correct? I've always preferred a shift pattern with R and 1 on the same column, but it's not a huge deal.

Anybody know where I can find a write-up on how to do it? If I want to do it, I want to eliminate as much guesswork as possible.

See post #7 in this thread.

Some wiring stuff

Another fella's swap thread
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-complete.html

So I guess the actual answer is no, no official write up but there is some info to help. Maybe one day I could actually do a write up on how mine went anyway...

Thank you so much for those links. I just bookmarked all of them. This swap will be more than I've ever done mechanically, so I'm going to use all of my brains and all the brains that I can borrow, too.

I thought there were only 2 variations of the zf5, one for the small blocks and one for the big blocks. Meaning you could get a donor with the 460 or 7.3? A 460 would be a lot cheaper than a powerstroke. It may be worth looking into.

They come with different bell housings yes but there are also a close and wide ratio version of the ZF. I think if it has a bell housing that will bolt up then you can use either but I imiagine the wide ratio is fairly rare. Then there's either the ZF S5 42 or the ZF S5 47(96 and 97 only).
Here's some ZF info:
