Transmission troubles on my F-150

I drive a 1997 F-150 with the 4R70w transmission. Last week stopping at a stop sign the transmission acted like it came out of gear and then dropped back in. It did this twice that day. When this happened it set a 708 code, I reset it and went on.. Later I also noticed the overdrive off light on the gear selector handle was flashing. Everything ran fine for 5 days then out of no where it will not come out of 1st gear. Now it set a 708, 750, and a 755 code. 708 is a tranny range sensor high input. 750 is shift solenoid “A” malfunction. 755 is a shift solenoid “B” malfunction. Only thing I can figure is the gear selector switch on the side of the tranny. Does this sound familiar to any one and am I on the right track?

To let everyone know the problem is fixed. Took a few days and checked things out. Changed shift solenoid inside transmission, no luck. Then talking to my transmission shop had me check the plug on the right side of tranny toward the rear on top. On Fords they tend to leak up into the plug. The fluid sits there and corrodes the pins on the transmission. They break off and weld themselves in the plug of the truck harness. He says it is fairly common on these transmissions. I took a mirror and checked it out. Sure enough had two pins broke off. To repair you have to drop the pan and remove the valve body of the transmission to gain access to the transmission harness. You have to change out the harness to a tune of $192.00 for just that small harness. Then either get the pins out of the plug which isn’t to easy. I ended up extracting the pins from the plug and splicing a new pin and wire in its place. The tranny shop had an old plug that had the same style pins so we just spliced then in. Truck is running fine and shifts all gears. The plug I am talking about is the one that communicates to the PCM.

Glad to hear you got this fixed. I have a 2003 Ranger that has an intermittent O/D Off light flash, that only comes on going down the highway when the truck starts to vibrate due to one of my bad tires. Pushing the big main trans connector behind the bellhousing keeps the light off. As long as I push the connector, then the light stays off. Seeing your problem really makes me wonder. May have to see if my Ranger doesn't have a similar stupid issue like this.
