best lowend cam for 302

whats the best lowend cam for a 302? ive been seeing alot about the e303 from the mustang guys but ive also been seeing alot of problems out of them and some people saying that its more of an upper rpm range cam as well? the truck is in the sig and will be going with hooker competition headers and either port and polished stock heads or port and polished gt40's.

whats your recomendations?

Your 5.0 already has as good a low rpm cam as it gets... though you can squeeze a little more grunt out of it with 1.7 rockers and longtubes. If you want to see real performance improvements swap in 4.10 gears or a 5.8.. or both.

How do you know what gears you have now? I've tried looking with my VIN and none of the numbers/letters are matching up.

Sorry to highjack....

look in your door jam and check on the sticker for the axle code, then look up the axle code and it will tell you your gearing.

A) e303 .. only if your idea if lowend is 3000rpm+, needs 4.10 gears min.
B) comp 35-512-8 .. essentially the same as stock '94+ truck cam with 1.7 RR.
C) comp 35-320-8 .. only if your idea of lowend is 2500rpm+, needs 3.73 gears min.
D) stock '94+ truck cam with 1.7 rr ... about as good as it gets with the 5.0
E) the HO cam with 1.7 rr .. Same as C.
F) econo cam .. fine if you want 1980 power levels.

Any cam besides the stock piece will sacrifice low rpm power for more top end, that's life with the 5.0. If you want better performance use one of those cams(the Comp 35-320-8 would be my pick) and install 4.10 gears and you'll be a happy camper.

I have the sister cam to the one above in my 5.0 right now, and it definitely doesn't produce as much low end as the stock cam but from 2500rpm and up it's an animal.

after seeing what my late buddys 5.8 did with a lunati voodoo, i THINK this would be a good choice

Lunati 90302LK - Lunati Truck Avenger Cam and Lifter Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

yes you will lose the roller lifters but the gains should be worth it, fyi, i have never changed out a cam on one of these trucks, so take my advice with a grain of salt

My advice would be to seriously consider Conanski's advice. Not being a suckup or anything, but just from using the search button and reading his posts along with a few others has saved me a ton of money and trouble.

I use the E-303 with 1.72 rockers in a built 302 , what i can tell you is it will make more power all over , most of the power is above 2500 on , but still will have more low end than stock , but it needs alot of motor and gears , and a very good computer tune....Lew

Thats probably your best bet , it takes some work to get the mustang type cams to work good in a truck , and helps if its a light truck , i like scorpion RR , there just bolt on , comes with everthing you need....
