You will notice the "adapter plate" on the back of the motor that holds the starter is what coverts a bare block to a 'Ford diesel' pattern. If memory serves me correctly IH uses a different plate for their trucks.

Well then, I saw the CL ad, and methinks you're doing good there - not only is a factory '96 transmission stronger than your '90 unit, but a "rebuilt by Ford" means it also got the upgrades so it's better than a factory '96 trans, making it that much more better than your '90 E4OD.

Glad to know that ford puts the upgrades in the tranny when they rebuild it. i am sure that every thing with this tranny is going to be fine. do need to buy a 6 bolt flexplate i think. not totally sure but the weather here isnt being real friendly so pulling the inspection plate will have to wait.

A psd flexplate will not work with your idi. You need a good idi 4 stud converter.

Anyone think of a reason why you couldn't drill the IDI flexplate for the PSD converter? It's have to be done very accurately, of course.
If the bolt circle is the same, than 2 of the existing holes would be OK. A template could be made that bolts on using 2 existing holes, thereby locating the 4 new holes...
Anyone know where to get the specs for the bolt patterns for PSD & IDI flexplates?

It can be done, I know someone who did it like two years ago. Not sure what kind of work went into it tho, but the guy ain't no professional mechanic or machinist so it must not have been too hard...

if you could get your hands on a psd flexplate for a few minutes you could mark the holes by laying the psd plate over your idi plate and center punching the holes. If I wont work someone please chime in but i dont see anything wrong, i know that wouldnt work with my 6.9 because i have the 2piece flexplate flywheel thingy, but if you have the one piece plate i dont see why it wouldnt work.
