Newbie with 460/C6 questions

Hi all.

New to the forum. I am looking at purchasing a motorhome soon. The majority of the ones in my price range are running 460 efi/c6 combo. a few have the 460efi/4-sd OD tranny combo. I am wrestling as to whether the 4-sp tranny is worth pursuing over the 3spd. Mileage isn't all that different, but I'm concerned with being able to drive at freeway speed (60/65) on the flats as well as engine/tranny life. Seems like a GV OD kit might be an option but the price seems prohibitive. Are there other vendors that suplly an OD kit for the 460? What kind of life can I expect from a well cared for 460/c6 combo?

Thanks for letting me ramble.

me personally i would opt for the OD tranny. the E40D tranny is based on the C6 but with a od added. also it has a better low gear ratio than the C6. the C6 is pretty near bullet proof so the E4OD tranny has the same toughness also.

the 460/C6 and 460/E4OD combo are pretty tough reliable combos but like anything it all depends on how the previous owner maintained and drove the unit. always inquire as to how often he changed fluids, plugs, filters etc to get an idea of how or if he maintained the unit.

Good information.

When buying a used vehicle, you somethime have to make lemonade. The rig that I have decided on does in fact have the 3spd c6. The decision towards this was based on the factors you mentioned, as well as it being a single owner RV, water tight and overall great shape. The not so good is that the mileage is around 55k.
If I decide to add an OD kit to this rig in the future, are there other vendors other than GV that make the kit?

Might there be someone here on this forum that has a used one for sale?

c6 would be my choice the e4od is something, 5 solenoids all electronic this that this that, will burn out this and that, yeah you have the OD, but you'll pay in overdrive to fix it when it breaks,,if u do end up with the e4od get an extra cooler and maybe do a tcc manual switch so you can control torqueconverter lockup when u want it,
